Georgia Fire Incident Reporting System

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has adopted the NFIRS Version 5.0 as the standard for incident reporting Georgia Fire Incident Reporting System Version 5.0 (GFIRS). The (GFIRS) collects information on a full range of fire department activity to include information regarding types of fires, injuries and fatalities for civilian and fire service personnel, EMS, hazardous materials, Wildland fires and apparatus and personnel. The GFIRS is modular in design. The program is an essential tool to identify and define the state’s fire problem, recognize fire trends and fire events which impact the citizens of Georgia.

Reporting to the State Fire Marshal’s Office

Fire departments are to submit their data on a monthly basis. Reports are due 30 days after the close of the month. Example: May reports are due July 1; June reports are due by August 1, July reports are due by September; etc. Fire departments should submit their files electronically by email, floppy diskette or CD. Fire departments may email their files to gfirs@sfm.ga.gov. This email address is for submission of incident reports only. In the text of the email, please state the month, year and department for which you are reporting. If sending the files by email is not an option, fire departments may submit files by mail on a floppy diskettes or a CD with a label stating the fire department name, month and year of submitted files. The mailing address is Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office, Suite 620 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr, Atlanta, GA 30334.

Fire departments must use software that meets the standards set forth by the United States Fire Administration. The active vendor list can be found on the USFA website at http://www.nfirs.fema.gov/system/activevendors.shtm.
