Georgia Arson Control Program, Inc.

What is the Georgia Arson Control Program, Inc.?
The Georgia Arson Control Program, Inc. (GAC) was formed in January of 1979 by property and casualty insurers writing business in Georgia. GAC, with the cooperation of the Commissioner, Georgia Department of Insurance and Safety Fire, and state/local law enforcement agencies, established a toll-tree Arson Hotline. A reward fund was initiated from which monetary rewards of up to $10,000 are given to individuals who come forward with information that results in the arrest and conviction of arsonists.
GAC's maximum reward is $10,000.
The Board of Directors of GAC is composed of representatives of both national and Georgia-based insurance companies, as well as insurance industry trade associations. The Board meets quarterly and holds an annual meeting each January.
How the Reward Program Works:
At the discretion of the GAC’s Reward Committee, up to $10,000 may be paid for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for planning or committing arson in Georgia. During its meetings, the Reward Committee will consider reward nominees from the following sources: * Individuals who have provided information by calling the toll-free Arson Hotline 1-800-282-5804; * Individuals nominated by a fire chief, police chief, prosecuting attorney, arson investigator or fire marshal; and, * Individuals who provide information by writing directly to Arson Control. Procedures have been established to safeguard the identity of informants who wish to remain anonymous and juveniles (whose identities must be kept confidential by state law because of their age). No official of any organization is empowered to promise or give a reward through this program prior to conviction or before official approval of a reward payment by the GAC Board of Directors. Law enforcement, fire department, court officials, insurance claim personnel and the families of each are not eligible for rewards through GAC.
